New & Upcoming events

16- Sept.-2014


  Some  new events that are scheduled to happen in and around Bogota in the coming weeks.

   The Bogota Police Dept.  and the Bogota Green Team in cooperation with the US Drug Enforcement Administration will be holding a ninth Take Back event. This will occur on Saturday 27- Sept from 10:00a to 2:00p at the Bogota Police Headquarters located on W. Broad St in Bogota. They are accepting all unused , or expired prescription medication anonymously.  Only medication in pill or patch form will be accepted, (no liquids or needles) This is an effort to eliminate unnecessary prescription medication from households so they do not taking by anyone but the intended user.  This is to keep the medication away from minors, and other situation where an accidental poisoning , or overdose may occur. This take back also allows for prescription medication to be dose of in a way that is safe for the local environment & water supply.
   A bin will be set-up in the lobby of Police Headquarters so all drop-off will be anonymous and confidential. This is a free service to the public.  On Wednesday  24- Sept.The Bogota Hook & Ladder Co. 1 and Engine Co. 1 will host their third annual blood drive.This event will take place at the West Broad St. Firehouse next door to the Police Headquarters.  The drive will start at 3:00p and go to 8:00p, and is being co-sponsored by the Community Blood Services. Along with the collection of red blood cells as well as blood  platelets. The blood cells are use for transfusions for anyone who need to replenish their system due to an accident or surgery. Platelets are use to aid in blood clotting that are use for those going through cancer treatments , or organ transplants.  If anyone wants to schedule an appointment please: call 201-251-3703.  However all who wish to can come to the firehouse between 3:00- 8:00p and donate without an appointment.
    Anyone may donate if the are between  17-75 years old, in good heath, and weigh at least 110 lbs. A donor is accepted even if they are prescribed medications that are frequently taken, inform the staff of all medication being taken, and it is recommended that a donor have a good meal , and plenty of fluids prior to donating.  Bergen County is sponsoring a Harvest Festival on Saturday & Sunday  28-29 Sept. in the Ridgefield Park section of Overpeck Park. Admission is free and it is open to the Public.

 Coming in October
 
On  Saturday 4-October  The Bogota  Green Team is hosting a Shredding day & Green Fair. This will take place in the Recreation Center Parking lot and run from 9:00a to 12:00 noon A shredding truck will be brought in so Bogota Citizen can safely and securely dispose of old documents and other paperwork that may need to be remove from local households.   The Bogota Green team are seeking sponsors and community group involvement. Green products and sustainable practices will be showcased. Anyone wishing to volunteer please contact Daniele Fede at 973-703-6578. 





On Saturday 18- October the Steen PTO will have their Fall Festival in Olsen Park from 12:00 noon to 6:00p. Admission is free which tickets prices to rides to be announced  and is open to the Public.




On  Sunday 19- October  The American Cancer Society will be having their " Making Strides Against Breast Cancer " Walk-a-thon. This will be in the Ridgefield Park section of Overpeck Park. Registration  opens at 8:00a , and the walk will start at 10:00a
