Board of Education

11-April-2018
On Tuesday-10-April the Bogota Board of Education held their first meeting for the month of April.  All the item on the consent agenda work passed forward and will be formally voted on at the next Board Meeting. During the Superintendent's report Dr. Vincent Varcadipane talked about several proposals he would like the Board Trustees to consider.  One was the preliminary calendar for the school year 2018-19. It would consist of 185 school day with 4 snow days available to be used.  The main points would included a full day for the first day of school. Also the Spring Break would run from Monday-15-April to Friday-19-April -2019. Easter is schedule to fall on Sunday-21-April-2019. This plan is due to standardize testing which will occur in May of 2019.
Another recommendation Dr. Varcadipane made was the installation of new security devices in all the districts schools. This would included "panic button" both hard wired in locations in each building, and wireless remote for administrative personal. Strobe lights within the building to supplement the PA warnings, new cameras both inside and outside the building all to be connected to the Police Department security system. Thee are also plans to have swipe card at all doors leading into each building. A full proposal with budget figures is scheduled to be presented to the Board  at its next meeting. This proposal would also include a  School Resource Officer assigned to the High School, and three armed  retired officers with one at each building.
Coach Brad DiRupo and Dr. Varcadipane mention the Athletic dept is in talks with Ridgefield Park  High School to have a joined Varsity Wrestling program. This is to replace the program which included Weehawken High School which voluntarily left Bogota at the end of the 2017-18 season.  This would have Bogota High School hosting most of the home matches, with some being held at Ridgefield Park. The program will still be in the Bogota division from last season. Both schools would equally share the cost of the program. Both the Bogota Middle School program and the Ridgefield Park recreational programs would remained unchanged.
All of these proposals are scheduled to be presented to the public and voted on at the Board's next meeting on Tuesday -17 April.
Dr. Varcadipane also mentioned  at in the most recent New Jersey School grading report published at NJ .com had Bixby school ranked  # 55 of the 2105 schools in New Jersey. Steen school was ranked at # 491 and the High School at #926.
The first Board of Education meeting for May was moved to Tuesday-1-May in order to allow for a budget meeting. This will still begin at 7:00p and be apart of the the regular board meeting, And is open to the public.
No decisions was made on the hiring of a new Superintendent.
The next scheduled Board of Education meeting will be Tuesday -17-April. This will be held in the Bogota High School Cafeteria and is open to the public. The Cafeteria is located on the second floor at 2 Henry Luthin Pl. Bogota, NJ. The meeting is scheduled to start at 7:00p
