National Honor Society

7-December-2018 
  On Thursday-6-December the Bogota  High School Inducted 13 new members to the Robert Pollison Chapter of the National Honor Society.  The Chapter was named after the former Principal of Bogota High School.  The evening started with welcoming speeches by Principal Kelly DeCongelio and Chapter President Angelie Jaipersaud. Bogota Alumni Claudia Gutarra was the keynote speaker  and talked to the newest members. She said how the work  needed to be invited to be inducted into the National Honor Society is hard, but to earn this recognition is the gateway to becoming a success in and after formal education. She also said that the challenges in being selected to  be admitted into the Honor Society will be a lesson that will be a valuable asset in the future. Senior members  Angelie Jaipersaud,  and Briana Lozano explained the  requirements needed to be accepted into the  National Honor Society.   Then the four officers,  Angelie JaipersaudBriana Lozano,  Ashley Gomez, Ali Salam, each lit a candle repersention the four pilars of the National Honor Society. These  for Scholarship: a cumulative GPA of 85, B, 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standard of excellence. For Service: voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation. In Leadership: Student  who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others. For Character: a student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.
  The new members  from the class of 2019  Scarlett Zambrano, from  the Class of 2020  Angelique Caceres, Riya Chatterji, Julianne Corniel, Natalie Hardwick, Selenne Jimenez, Sophia Marquez, Nylene Mateo, Carly Nunez, Lara Pena, Olivia Rosado, Chris Tomlinson, and Micheal Zayas-Bazan  reciteed the Honor Society Pledge. This was followed by the new members receiving their NHS pin and certificate  from Principal  DeCongelio.  To close the ceremony the High School Band lead the attendees in singing the Alma Mater.
