Board of Education

9-October-2019
On Tuesday-8-October the Bogota Board of Education held their first meeting for the month of October. During his Superintendent report Mr. Damien Kennedy announced that the  Board will hold a special meeting on Tuesday-29- October starting at 7:00p. This will be held in the High School  Auditorium and will be a presentation and discussion about the growing use of vaping production by Students.  There will also be a display of how vaping items can appear to be common object and where they may be found in a person’s room. This is open to the public.
Another topic Mr. Kennedy talked about was that the Bogota Public School system has qualified to be part of the New Jersey Clear Energy Program. This will allow Bogota to have 80% of the cost upgrades to more efficient systems, including lighting and heating cost, be paid for by this program.  The company, Direct Install will due analysis of what every building belonging to the district needs and give its recommendation at a future board meeting. The Board of Education will still need to cover the final 20% of the cost for the improvements.
When the trustees took the time to consider  the consent agenda a few questions were raised. One question that was discussed was the Board of Education policy allowing  Senior Student, that have now moved to a different community, to finish their Senior year at Bogota The current policy is that if Student beings  their Senior year as a resident of the Borough they can continue to attend Bogota High School if their family moves out of the district.  The concern was can the School Board receive financial compensation from either the school district the Student now lives in, or from their Family.  Mr. Kennedy said he was not aware of any other district having this type of policy. He did confirmed that the Student, and their Family are the ones responsible for the Student's travel to classes.  The Board of Education does not provide or pay for this type of cost. He added that there will be  legal consultation about this subject to see if can become a new policy for Bogota.
The Next Board of Education meeting will be on Tuesday-15-October. The meeting will be held in the High School Cafeteria  located on the second floor of 2 Henry Luthin Pl.  Bogota, NJ. The meeting is scheduled to start at 7:00p. The Public is invited to attend.
