Alumni Basketball

7-October-2019
On Saturday-5-October Alumni of Bogota basketball took to the Jay Mahoney Court at Speary Gym for a couple of contests. First there was a three point basket shoot off.  17 Alumni of both Women and Men would be playing in the game took part in the first round of this event.  This was narrowed down to the top six point getters. The championship round would see Jim Holsworth face off against Matt Kittner.  Mr. Kittner would shoot first. He would stand halfway from the top of the arc and the Tip-off circle.  This would add about another seven feet the ball needed to travel.  Mr. Kittner would make nine baskets to set the standard.  When Mr. Holsworth time came, he took one step forward, but still more the minimum needed.  As time was running  down the score drew closer together. At the end of the  contest Matt Kittner would be the first Alumni Three Point Champion.
For the full court game there would be a team dressed in Bogota Purple, taking on a squad wearing Bucs Gold. The game would be played in two halves with four 8:00 quarters total.   After the first quarter the Gold team had twice as many point with a 18-9 lead.  By the time the second quarter ended the Gold team still had an eight point advantage 33-25.
After the restart players found  their comfort zone as three point baskets began to full the nets. Just over three minutes left in quarter three the Purple team would take their first lead of the game, with another basket from outside arc, by Gerard Devine. This would give his side a one point lead. At the three quarter time mark the Gold players still had the lead by now by only a single point 50-49.  It would take the first couple minutes for a basket to be made in the final session. This would be yet another three point score by the Purple team to give them the final lead change of the afternoon.  As the clock strike zero’s the final score would read Bogota Purple  65 - Bucs Gold  59.  The handshake line was one of laughter, smiles, and some longer than normal hugs for an opponent in a highly spirited contest.
After all the scoring was added up,  Event Coordinator, Ray Searles announced that the Purple team’s Gerard Devine  was named the MVP for the game.
