National Honor Society

  On Thursday-2-December the Bogota High School inducted 6 new members to the Robert Pollison Chapter of the National Honor Society.  The chapter was named after the former Principal of Bogota High School. The ceremony began with Faculty Advisor Ms. JoAnne Hrabovsky introducing  High School Principal Ms. Kelly DeCongelio
  Principal DeCongelio congratulated  the new members being inducted into this year National Honor Society Class. She then congratulated the families of this Student for their part in guiding their children to obtain this achievement.  Senior Presidents Kaylin Torres and Vincent Ducut explained the requirements needed to be accepted into the  National Honor Society.  Then the officers, Maryann Gesmundo, Olivia Burnett, Kyla Lowery, and Mira Sarabamon, ask that the new members to stand up with a lit a candle. With each candle representing  one of the four pillars of the National Honor Society. These are for  Scholarship: a cumulative GPA of 85, B, 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standard of excellence. For Service: voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation. In Leadership: Student  who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others. For Character: a student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record. Members Salma Abdel-Aziz and Owen Rosado then explain what is will be like as a member of National Honor Society. Along with  the meaning of the symbols in the shield.
    The new members from  the Class of 2021  Daniella Almonte, Valerie Brio, Simra Fatima, Amisha Singh, Annaya Syed, and Helena Tobin then recited the Honor Society Pledge. This was followed by the new members receiving their NHS  certificate and pins from Ms Hrabovsky.  To close the ceremony the High School Band lead the attendees in singing the Alma Mater.
