January Events

1-January-2016 
  Some events scheduled to take place in and around Bogota for the month of January. Times and dates may change due weather or other circumstances. Please contact the event for the most up to date information. 
   Some Government public meeting will be scheduled early in the new year. They will  added to this listing as they are confirmed.

  The Bogota Public Library has a number of stations dedicated to the collect items to be recycled. collection drop is for old, non-working holiday string lights. This is a project sponsored by the Bogota Green team and Bogota Beautiful. They will be collecting these lights  until Friday-8-January-2016.  Process from collecting these lights will go to help fund the Bogtoa Beautiful spring planting.  Other string light drop-off points are Borough Hall, All three of the Bogota Public Schools and the Bogota Dept. of Public Works.   A Family Orchard Terrace is still searching for their lost dog . This family is serving as a Foster Home for this Dog who will answer to the name Cleo or Celine. She is a 2 year Shepard mix Brown and Black in colour.  The foster family reported Cleo missing on Wednesday 16-Dec after arriving home from work finding a window broken and Cleo missing. Cleo was last seen wearing a red collar decorated with images of bones on it.  Cleo may be familiar with the area along River Rd. She is described as "fearful" and may ran from strangers.  Cleo has been with her Foster Family for only a few weeks so she may be looking for an older home, or more familiar surroundings.

   The Borough of Bogota will have it's Sine Die in order to swear in the elected officials for Mayor and Council. This will take place in the Seniors Center located on the second floor of 375 Larch Ave. This will begin at 2:00p, and is open to the public.

    The Bogota Board of Education will have its Re-organization meeting  to swear in the members who were elected to office in November-2015. This will be held in the Bogota High School Cafeteria starting at 7:30p. This is open to the public. The Cafeteria is located on the second floor at 2 Henry Luthin Pl. Bogota, NJ

   Bogota Beautiful will host Winter Salsa night in January. These will be every Thursday ( 7, 14, 21,& 28) of January.  The lessons will start at 8:00p and go until 9:00p.These will be lead by Isabel Bustamante who will teach anyone in attendance the art of Salsa Dancing.  The lessons are be open to all ages and experiences in dancing.  All sessions  will take place on the second floor of the Kennedy Emergency Service Building located at 69 W. Main St Bogota, NJ. There will be a suggested donation of $5.00 for the first three night and $10.00 for 28-Jan.  The fourth night will be a Salsa Social Dance event. This is open to anyone, of all ages, who knows, or wishes to learn about Salsa Dance.  Ms. Bustamante will be one instructor, along with Sasha Valerie leading the class on 21-Jan. The final night dance party on 28-January with music provided.  Anyone wishing to donate a food item should contact  Bogota Beautiful for more information. Also anyone wishing to volunteering for any of these project.        The weekly " Meet the Mayor"  event will take place in the office of Mayor Chris Keleman  This is open to any Bogota resident who would to ask the Mayor a question about  Bogota, or to discuss any matter to help improve the quality of life in the Borough. Anyone who wishes just to have an informal conversation with the Mayor is also welcome to attend. Meetings will be held on a first come basis. This will run from 5:00p to 7:00p in the Mayor's office.    The Bogota Public Library will have an instrumental program on how to make a Salad  in a Jar.  This will feature a number of creative ways to encourage healthier eating. Anyone attending must sign up  in advance in order to have the an accurate number of jars. Also, in order to participate you must bring just one salad ingredient. You'll receive an email or a phone call after you register and you can choose the salad ingredient then. Early birds get the most choices. This is a new date for this event with the time still starting at 7:00p

  The Bogota Public Library will host an Interactive Guitar Showcase with Joe Lustica. This will begin at 11:00a.  Part performance, part hands on exploration of the guitar, part music lesson. Audience members with their own guitars are encouraged to bring them. Young musicians just starting out and who'd value a fun guitar lesson are encouraged to bring their own guitars. And fun shall be had by all!!!

      The three schools of the Bogota Public Education System, St. Joseph's School and the Bogart Memoral School will be closed for the Martin Luther King  Jr Holiday. The Bogota Public Library will also be closed this day.

  The Bogota Public Library will host a three week workshop on wellness and  Weight  Management.  This will be in cooperation with the ShopRite of Hackensack They will bring  a FREE 3-week weight management series. Come learn about portion sizes, eating healthy on the go, label reading, cooking for weight loss, and more! This free 3-week program will be led by ShopRite of Hackensack registered dietitian, Alison Halpern, RD, CHES. Participants will learn strategies to make healthy lifestyle choices to accomplish their goals. Space is limited.

The Bogota Public Library will have it's first Trivia Night of 2016. Mr Roman is scheduled  to ask the questions starting at 7:30p.
