On Monday-20-August The first regular meeting of the Library's Bogota Test Kitchen book club was held in the second floor Senior Centre. The inaugural book chosen was "Giada's Italy" featuring recipes by Giada De Laurentiis. The participants each served a different dish that they prepared with recipes from the book. The items to be sampled this month ranged from Appetizers such as a Burrata with Nectarines & Corn and a White Bean with Tuscan Kale soup. Then moving to Main courses including a Spicy Calabrian Shrimp and Chicken Agroclolce. The finishing items were deserts including a Fennel Upside Down Cake, and a berry mixture.
After the member taste all the available item they had a discussion on the quality of the dishes, and reviewed the book itself. It was agreed on that the cooks did a fine job of making and presenting the items they chose. As for a review of the book itself there were mixed feelings. A major complaint was the need to find many exotic ingredients in order to follow the recipes. The members also stated that they wished there was some advice on any special techniques that Ms. De Laurentiis could have shared with the readers. Then the members continued to talked amongst themselves and shared there own variations on similar recipes, and what might have worked easier while cooking.
They did agree that the experience of trying something different and the chance to share it with others was worth the time used.
Their next book will be "Dinner in an Instant" by Melissa Clark. This is a collection of recipes that should allow a person to prepare weekdays meals ahead of time.
Bogota's Test Kitchen next meeting will be on Monday-17-September starting at 7:00p. This will be held in the second floor Senior Centre above the Bogota Public Library. This is a free event and open to anyone over the age of 18 years old. Anyone wishing to participate mush register before hand, with this cookbook of the month available at the Library.
