Bogota Board of Education Reorganization

  On Tuesday-7- January the Bogota Board of Education held its Reorganization meeting for 2020.  The meeting started with the reading of the results from the November elections. Incumbent Trustee Lisa Kohles received the most votes with 757.  Next was first time candidate Idalia Alvarez receiving 656 votes. Then Incumbent Trustee Amanda Montgomery followed with 646 votes. These were the top three Candidates and won the three open seats on the Board of Education. The other Candidates were Kristen Meberg  with 646 votes,  Zabrina Kearns with 563 and Bisi Ruckett with 480 vote. Ms. Kohles, Ms. Alvarez, and Ms. Montgomery were given the oath of office by Business Administrator Irfan Evcil. 
  Once the new Board was seated, the Trustees voted for a Board President.  Lisa Kohles was re-elected President by a unanimous vote. Amanda Montgomery was re-elected as Vice President  also with a unanimous vote. 
   All agenda items passed which included the 2020 meeting scheduled.  There was then the Public Comment session, in which one member of the audience wished the new Board of Trustees well for their upcoming year.  After that the  meeting was adjourned. 
   The Bogota Board of Education is now taking applications to fill a vacancy on the Board due to former trustee Mr. Michael Connors being elected to the Bogota Borough Council.  This will be a one year running until December 31, 2020. The requirements to serve as a member of the Bogota Board of Education include being a citizen and resident of Bogota for at least one year, registered to vote in the district and not being disqualified to vote, not being convicted of a crime, and having the ability to read and write.

   The next Board of Education meeting will be on Tuesday-14-January and is scheduled to start at 7:00p. This will take place in the Cafeteria of Bogota High School located on the second floor of 2 Henry Luthin Pl. Bogota, NJ. This meeting is open to the public.
