Special Meeting

6-May-2020
On Monday-5- May the  Teaneck Township Council held a special meeting. This was to approve a resolution to extend the grace period for filing  second quarter property taxes.  This was needed to comply with New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s Executive Order in creating the longer grace period.  This was approved by an unanimous vote.
This now gives resident of  Teaneck until Monday-1-June-2020 to submit their tax payment with out a penalty. Taxes may be paid online by using a Credit, or Debt,  Card and by e-check. Tax payment by a physical check can be done using the drop box . This box is located to the right of the Front door of the Municipal Building. The cancel check can be used as a receipt. Payments made after the 1-June-2020 grace period are subject to an interest penalty. Interest on a late payment will be charged at a rate of 8% on the first $1500.00 and 18% on the remaining balance, reverting back to the statutory due date.  A 6% year end penalty will  be charged on a delinquency in excess of $10,000.00.
During the Public comment session it was asked the reasoning for the meeting on this date. The explanation was that Governor Murphy signed the order on Tuesday-28-April. In order for any one municipality to extend the grace period in their community that municipality need to show there was a sufficient amount of available funds to maintain day to day operation. The Teaneck Government confirmed they met these criteria on 30-April. By 1-May enough Members of Council contacted the Township Manger so then he could arrange to call the emergency  session. Under the Open Public Meeting act a 48 hour, of Business Day,  time frame is require to give Public Notice prior to schedule a meeting. Tuesday -5-May was the earliest available date.  Other comment asked about the Budget presentation. Council answered saying the Tuesday-19-May meeting will present the Budget to the public, and they hope to have a copy of the budge available , online for public viewing before that meeting
   Then the meeting was adjured.
