Community Center

30-December-2025
On Wednesday-30-April the Borough of Bogota held a groundbreaking ceremony to start the work on creating a new Community Center in Olsen Park. This will replace the old Recreation Center that served the Borough for many decades. It would become the Bogota Community Center. This was to show that the building will be used by all residents of the Borough.
The Community Center will be a one-story structure that will house a main multi-purpose room having a Junior Varsity size Basketball Court. This room will also be used for Summer Camp, along with Student and Adult programs. There will also be a separate meeting room, a new directors office, and storage rooms for equipment. A new snack bar will be created that can serve both indoor events and offer food service to the park. Public restrooms will be accessible during regular park hours. At this time, an opening of April 2026 is planned.
In May the demolition of the old building began, and the site was cleared by the end of the month. During this time, a number of old glass bottles and other artifacts were found. The Borough is interested  in saving them as part of the history of the site.
In July, the site was marked and prepared  for foundation work. The building subsurface foundations, plumbing, electrical and other utility conduits, and piping had been completed. Then the geostorage system for stormwater runoff was installed underground and covered. Later in July the outline of the structure had been poured showing the shape of the new building.
In early August, the main slab on grade was poured and levelled. Once the concrete was fully cured the structural steel began to be erected. At the start of September columns were placed and trusswork for the gym’s and office roofs were hung.
Before the end of the month concrete blocks for the gym, and metal framing studs for the lower section of the building were installed. Along with metal roofing to begin the enclosing of the interior
In October, the lower level was able to be drywalled with opening cuts for doors and windows. This  made the work to enclose the building, and continue with interior framing installing ductwork, insulation, sprinklers, and starting drywall installation. On the exterior, the splitface block on the lower portion of the building is completed. The metal paneling which encompasses the upper gym wall is completed on the rear and currently making its way around to the front face of the building. The main entrances on the office side of the building will have a wood finish cladding system once those areas are ready.
Recently doors and windows were installed, Fascia on the upper walls of the gym and detailing for the W. Main St, and park facing entrances. As the year turned into Winter, decorative panels were added to the western door  towards  Olsen Park. Bollards have been added around the deck that will become an outdoor sitting area in front of the refreshment stand. Before the cold weather set-in a few concrete curbs were poured to designate the parking area.
With the building being weatherproof all interior work is taking place in the whole structure. Landscaping is scheduled for May 2026.
