On Saturday-6-December the Bogota Volunteer
Fire Department held their Chiefs elections for 2026. This was held at the
Hose #2 firehouse on Central Ave.
Officer Robert Dirr from
Hose Co. #2 was sworn in as Chief of the Department for 2026. Then Officer Alex
Breuss of Hook & Ladder Co.#1 took the oath of office as Deputy Chief in
2026. Next it was announced at Officer Dan Klima from Engine Co. #1 was elected
Battalion Chief for the upcoming year.
After this the Company Officers were sworn in, they are:
For Engine Co. #1
-Captain Joseph DiMauro, Jr
-Lieutenant Nicholas Arciuolo
For Hook and Ladder Co.#1
-Captain Scott Worgens
-1st Lt William Hordern
-2nd Lt Ryan Smith
For Hose Co.# 2
-Captain Joseph Kleiber
-Lieutenant Matthew McGurty
For Engine Co. #3
Captain John (Jack) Dunn
1st Lt James Corrigan
2nd Lt Michael Kynicky
Then Chief Schaeffer received his “Retired Chief’s” badge.
After this outgoing Chief Adam Schaeffer presented Chief Dirr with his new helmet badge. This was followed by Deputy Chief Breuss, Battalion Chief Klima receiving their new helmet badges for their new office.
Former Chief Michael
Kynicky was presented with the Maltase Cross photo frame for this time as Chief
in 2024. Then Chief Schaeffer was presented with his Maltase Cross
photo frame for 2025.
Then a few awards for time served were presented, they were to
Anthony Friel for 20 years, Michael Englehardt for 20 years, Alex Breuss for 30 years, Adam Schaeffer for 25 years, and Steve Andreazza for 40 years.
The final presentation was to award Engine Co. #1. Company of the Year for 2025.
The ceremony ended with music from members of the Bergen County Firefighters Pipe Band.
On Sunday-21-December Companies of the Bogota Fire Department will hold their Lollipop Sunday drive around the Borough starting around noon.
On Wednesday-24-December Santa Claus will be escorted around Bogota by the Fire Dept. to see the Children one more time before his Christmas Eve journey around the world. This is scheduled to start at 5:30p
The Bogota Fire Department is currently recruiting new members to become volunteers. This is open to anyone Female or Male who are at least 18 years of age, and are residents of Bogota as well as Ridgefield Park, Teaneck, and Hackensack. Training and equipment will be provided. There is also a Junior Firefighter program open to young Women, and Men who are at least 16 years of age. A Junior Firefighter will also receive training and be a part of the support system to the Firefighters themselves. There is also a meeting the 1st Wednesday of each month at the W. Broad St. Firehouse from 7:00-8:00p
