October Events

30-September-2018

Some events scheduled to take place in and around Bogota, for the month of October starting on Monday-1-October. Times and dates may change due weather or other circumstances. Please contact the event for the most up to date information.  More events will be added when they become available.

Continuing
 Starting on Monday-26- February the main parking lot and front entrance to Bogota High School will be closed. This is due to the reconstruction of the Parking lot. Work is scheduled to continue until First week of September-2018.   All access to the High School will be through the side door on the North side of the building.







Continuing 


  Starting on Sunday-1 July-2018 the Borough of Bogota will change the ordnance in what can be recycled. Bottle & cans recycling pick-up the Borough of Bogota will now be limited to: Aluminium, Glass, Bi-metal/Tin cans. Aluminium foils and pie plates will be accepted but must be clean. Plastic Containers with the symbol  1, 2, or 5  only  will also be accepted.   All recyclable material must be placed in  reusable trash receptacles.  Items places in plastic bag will not be collected. Paper and cardboard recycling remains unchanged.
   The  collectible the products that have been removed from the accepted list will now be accepted by The Borough of Bogota in cooperation with the Ridgefield Park  environmental commission and collected in a separate way. The Trex Corporation has provided bins to accept the following item. Grocery bags, bread bags, case overwrapping, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, wood pellet bags, zip lock & other re-seal able bags, produce bags, bubble wrap, salt bags, and cereal bags. All  recyclable materials must be clean, dry and free of food residue. For every 500 pounds of plastic collected the Trex Corporation will donate a new park bench, made from recycled materials. The benches will be donated to both Bogota and Ridgfield Park on a rotating basis. As of now a Trex collection bin is in the lobby of the Bogota Borough Hall and  the Bogota Public Library can be accessed  during  regular business hours. More bins are planned for other locations in the future.
  The collection day under the new rules will be Thursday-5-July (due to the Fourth of July Holiday) Then every other Wednesday.

Bogota High School  Senior Emilio Briones has been been named one of nine Student Athletes in week 3 of the 2018 Heart of a Giant Award .  To vote for Mr. Broines please go to: Heart of a Giant/Emilio Briones  Voting closes Sunday-14-October at 11:59 p.m. to accumulate the most votes within the Week 3 group. Anyone CAN VOTE 1 TIME EVERY 24 HOURS, PER DEVICE.

October to December
    Monday-1- October will be the start of Leaf Season. Home Owners are allowed to place raked, leaves and grass cutting  in the street , along the curb, in front of their residents.  It is ask that the piles be placed in such a way as not to interfere with traffic, and away from storm sewers and drain to prevent flooding , or other water build-up. Leaf Season is schedule to end on Monday -17- December after that date all yard waste must be placed in brown leaf bags for pick-up.

Ridgefield Park, NJ
   The Village of Ridgefield Park will be  presented with a  $200,000 grant to Ridgefield Park for the nature trail and boardwalk, and related improvements in the Nature Preserve.  Bergen County Executive James Tedesco will be making the the presentation.  This will held at the northern side of the Ridgefield Park High School,  near the nature preserve. It is scheduled to begin  at 6:30pm. Ridgefield Park High School is located at  1 Ozzie Nelson Dr. Ridgefield Park, NJ

The weekly " Meet the Mayor"  event will take place in the office of Mayor Chris Keleman This is open to any Bogota resident who would to ask the Mayor a question about  Bogota, or to discuss any matter to help improve the quality of life in the Borough. Anyone who wishes just to have an informal conversation with the Mayor is also welcome to attend. Meetings will be held on a first come basis. This will run from 5:00p to 7:00p in the Mayor's office. His office is on in Bogota Borough Hall located at 375 Larch Ave. Bogota, NJ.

  The Bogota Board of Health will sponsor a  Influenza Vaccine Clinic. This will take place form 11:00a to 12:00 noon and be held in the Bogota Seniors Centre located on the second Floor of 375 Larch Ave Bogota, NJ, This is available to anyone 3 years of age and older.
For participants 3-64 years of age; there’s a $20.00 fee for quadrivalent vaccine and $30.00 for preservative free vaccine.
For participants 65 years of age or over  they must bring their Medicare Part B number or pay a fee. HMO participants should see their primary care provider.







Tuesday-2-October 
Bogota
    The Bogart Memorial Church  will host its next session of Pottery for Everyone classes. This is part of their Flourish Community Art Studio in Bogota.  The next pottery classes will start on Tuesday-2-October, and a second class starting on Thursday-7-October.  Both will be six session all taught by Lewis Marx. The classes will be held in  one studio at 254 Elm Ave.  Price are  $45.00 for the the Tuesday session for Students in Kindergarten to Sixth Grade.  And $100 for  Thursday Session  for Students from 6th to 12th graqde. Materials and firing are included in the price. .

   Care for the Brave will sponsor a charity  basketball game  between the Facility of Bogota Public School against a team of Bogota Policers and Bogota Volunteer Firefighters. This will be held in Speary Gym  at Bogota High School and is scheduled to start at 7:00p Tickets are now available  for $5.00 for Adults  & $3.00 for Students. Any Veteran is admitted free of charge. Thursday-4-October 
Bogota
   Bogota Beautiful will host of a "Paint and Sip" fundraiser.  This will be presented by local artist Betty Buffin who will lead the participants  in creating  on a goblet to take home. This will take place at the Kennedy Emergency Service Building located at 69 W. Main St. Bogota, NJ . Doors will open at 7:30p and will run until 10:00p. Cost of tickets are priced at $40.00 per person with the process going to future Bogota Beautiful projects. The admission price includes  all the material needed to create a personalised goblet.  Admission will also included  an Italian themed buffet diner with soft drinks and coffee available.   The Bogota Borough Council will be holding their regular meeting and work session. This is schedule to start at 7:30p. It will take place in the Council Chambers located on the second floor at 375 Larch Ave. Bogota, NJ.  This meeting is open to the public.

Thursday-4-October 
Teaneck, NJ
 The next day of the Teaneck Farmers Market  for this season. Shoppers will be able purchase locally grown  and produced food items.  This annual event will be every Thursday from June to the end of October. The stand open at 12:00 noon and continue until 6:00p   The Teaneck Farmers Market is located in the municipal parking lot along Beverly Rd Teaneck, NJ. There is additional parking available near by.

   The Bogota  Public Library  host their Toddler play group. This is an opportunity for   young children and their Parents to play and relax in a safe area. The Trinity Lutheran  Church of Bogota is hosting their  Oktoberfest . This will take place in the church's community room located at 167 Palisade Ave Bogota, NJ. Doors will open at 6:00p and will run to 9:00p. Admission is free and is open to the public. This will be a pot-luck dinner with  German Themed dishes requested.  This is being held with respect to the German heritage of  the Lutheran  Church and it's  founder Martin Luther.

        The Bogota Public Library will host  a Pilates work out class present by Deborah Glassford of Spa at Glenpointe . This is schedule to start at 7:00p. Anyone attending should wear loose-fitting  clothes, and bring  their own mat and water bottle.  The Bogota Public Library will present  Reading to Abbey starting at 10:30a.  Abbey is a therapy dog who comes to public libraries in order to aid  help students who may have challenges in reading. Sunday-7-October 
Bogota
  This will be the next day of the Healthy Running Series  for Bogota. Healthy Kids Running Series a nonprofit organization that gets boys and girls Pre-K through Middle School active, feel accomplished and lays the foundation for a healthy lifestyle, compete in their first race of the five-consecutive-week Series. This will take place at Fiegel Field starting at 4:30p. It will run for 5 straight weeks ending on Sunday 14-October. Fees start at $10.00 for one race. or $35 for the entire series of five races. This program features the Hamilton recording of the performance at the White House, an introduction to the characters of the musical, and music from the Broadway production including Ten Duel Commandments.      The Bogota Public Library will offer an AARP  Defensive Driving Course. This is designed for drivers over the age of 50 and will explain update driving rules and teach defensive driving techniques.     The next meeting will be held in the second floor of the Bogota Library. At this meeting members are to bring a recipe from this month book, and serve it to the other members as a potluck dinner. While over dinner members can discuss the book, why the chose their dish, and what was it like in the cooking process.  Their next book will be "Dinner in an Instant" by  Melissa Clark. This is a collection of recipes that should allow a person to prepare weekdays meals ahead of time. 
  Bogota's Test Kitchen is scheduled to hold their meeting on the third Monday of the month in order to give the members the weekend to prepare their chosen dish. This is a free event and open to anyone over the age of 18 years old.  Anyone wishing to participate must register before hand, with the cookbook of the month available at the Library.         The next discussion  in the Bogota Public Library Author Talks series will  start at 7:00p. This will feature Jeff Ryan's   "A Mouse Divided: How Ub Iwerks Became Forgotten, and Walt Disney Became Uncle Walt"   This will tell the story starting, in 1928, about the creation of Mickey Mouse and how Walt Disney went on to form his own company.

  The Bogota Public Library will host a workshop for young athletes in Bogota  This will be the first of four Saturday's to encourage Students to learn more about how learning any sport can be beneficial in everyday life. It will be in two separate age groups.  One group for anyone ages from 2-7 will run from  11:00a. to noon.  All Students who participate must be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian throughout the event.   The Green Team of Ridgefield Park and Bogota will be holding a Styrofoam Recycling event.  This will take place at the Ridgefield Park Dept. of Public Works  building located at 24 Industrial Ave. Ridgefield Park, NJ. They will be accepting used styrofoam packaging that is  dry, clean and, and uncontaminated. Shoppers will be able purchase locally grown  and produced food items.  This annual event will be every Thursday from June to the end of October. The stand open at 12:00 noon and continue until 6:00p   The Teaneck Farmers Market is located in the municipal parking lot along Beverly Rd Teaneck, NJ. There is additional parking available near by.

     The Bogota Recreation Commission will  host their annual Fall Festival in Olsen Park. This  will start with a costume parade  from Steen School down W. Main St to Olsen Park at 12:00 noon. The costumed Student will then march down W. Main St. to Olsen Park. At Olsen Park there will be food, Hayrides, Bounce House, Face Painting and a Pumpkin Patch where Students can pick their own pumpkin and decorate them there. All activities will be free of charge and open to the Public.  The Festival will run until 4:00p.
     They are looking to arrange for ten volunteer to assist with this event. Anyone wishing to volunteer will be required to arrive at the Bogota Recreation Center at 11:00a  to help set-up and stay after 5:00p for clean-up. Any High School Student who Volunteer will receive Community Service Credit.

    The Ridgefield Park Elks Lodge # 1506 will be holding a Halloween Dinner Dance. This will start at 6:30p and go until 11:30p Prices are $10.00 per person.     This will be Halloween Night in Booogota. Weather permitting the  Bogota Police Dept plans to close Larch Ave from W. Main St. to the Teaneck border to all vehicular traffic. This is to allow anyone wishing to Trick or Treat to have a safe environment to walk from house to house in.
