 17-October-2020

On Saturday-17-October the Bogota Football Bucs played their home opener for the 2020 Season. Their original home opener was scheduled  for 3-October against Palisades Park but was postponed for health concerns.  This game was against the Ridgefield Royal. The Sports Department took this opportunity to make this the Senior game for 2020.  The Seniors for Football, Cheerleading the Marching Band, and Twirling where all recognized, with their family before the start of the game.  Also before the kick-off the family of Mr. Ed Sweeney  join the players on the field to share a moment of silence to remember Mr. Sweeney  and all of the work he had done for the Students of Bogota, and his time as a resident of the Borough.
The game started with Ridgefield receiving the opening  kick-off. This drive was stopped when  Bogota’s Gabriel Nunez recovered a Fumble to give the Bucs the ball deep in Ridgefield territory.  The Bucs took advantage of this when Mr. Nunez would score on a 5 yard run and add the extra 2 points to give Bogota the early 8-0 lead. Starting Bogota Quarterback Vance Mixon would suffer a lower body injury and be replaced by Ashanti  Caviness. The first quarter end with Bogota holding a 8-0 advantage. In the second 12 minutes Mr. Caviness would run for two Touchdowns with runs of 17 and 2 yards.  The half would end with Bogota  having a 20-0 lead.
As the game restarted Bogota would receive the kick-off. Gabriel Nunez would return the ball with an 80 yard run and give Bogota a 26-0 lead.  Bogota would score two more times in the third quarter with a 1 yard run by Ashanti  Caviness, and a 50 yard run by Jadan Feliz. At the Three Quarter time mark Bogota was ahead 40-0. In the final quarter Ridgefield would get a 60 yard Touchdown reception by Leo Rivera form a halfback option throw by Max Ycaza.  The Bucs would finish the scoring on a 3 yard Touchdown run by Jadan Feliz.  The final score was Bogota 48 Ridgfield 8.  This now moves their record to 1-1. They next play on Friday-23-October when they travel to Emerson. The kick-off is schedule for 7:00p
During the Bucs post game huddle head Coach Brain Appleton held up the game ball. He told his player what a game like this can mean to the team, coaches, and even the just of Bogota after the loss of a supported like Mr. Sweeney. Coach Appleton then asked his team to follow him across the street from Fiegel Field to the Home of Ed Sweeney. He presented the Sweeney Family with this  game ball as a show of respect and gratitude and how much Ed Sweeney will always mean to Bogota.
