Bogota Board of Education

 21-January-2022
On Tuesday-18-January the Bogota Board of Education held their second meeting for the month of January. In his report Superintendent Mr Damian Kennedy presented the results of the School District testing for 2021. These test were evaluations of how much support is needed in the grade levels from fourth grade to High School Seniors. The Student were tested on a variety of subjects  in the English Language Arts, Math, and Science.
At the end of the presentation Superintendent Kennedy explained some the steps the district should enact to give Students support in whichever subject they require assistance Some examples are:
In Math: Create math data teams in, Math 8, Algebra I & II, Geometry. Create clear goals of the teams. Identify standards gaps, revise scope and sequence, improve standards with issues, improve classroom instruction routines. Determine which student standards are deficient or not taught.
In Science: Create science data teams in High School, Middle, and Elementary. Identify Start Strong data and question analysis. Determine which student standards are deficient or not taught.
In Early Reading and Literacy: Continue to screen, identify, and support struggling reading in grades K-2. Provide immediate RTI support to improve reading proficiency. Monitor progress of struggling readers multiple times a year. Provide evidence based interventions through RTI, after school and summer programming.
Superintendent Kennedy again stressed that the more proficient  younger and ESL Students  in  reading skills and comprehension the more they will perform in Math and Science classes.
There was then a discussion by the Trustees on what other steps can be taken, including the involvement of the Student’s family in not only helping the Students themselves, but  to become active with the Facility and Staff on finding ways to assist Students  in learning.
When the Trustees moved to the consent agenda all items were passed by a unanimous vote. Items of note were the approval of extended Family leave for one of the Teachers. Another item was Approval of Participation in the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Certification Program.
