15-June-2025
On Thursday-12-June, the Lillian M. Steen School in Bogota held their Promotion Ceremony for the Class of 2025. This was held in the Moore Gym, with this year’s Students walking down the processional while wearing dark blue graduation caps. A number of the caps were decorated with personal messages.
Ms. Arianny Mueses, Ms. Morgan Braddock-Thompson, and Mr. Noah Camilo led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. This was followed by all the Students singing, and signing, America the Beautiful.
Superintendent Mr. Damian Kennedy talked about the Students years in Steen and building the foundation of Academic and Personal success. Mr. Kennedy told the Students what changes await them at the Middle School. Along with new opportunities they can take part in, and the new additions to the High School. Then Mr. Kennedy recited a story about the two wolves that can live inside a person. One represents: Fear, Anger, Laziness and Jealousy. While the other stands for Love, Kindness, Hope, and Determination. A persons Strength, Confidence, and Success can be based on if the correct wolf is fed.
Steen Principal Ms. Kelly Foley DeCongelio welcomed the Faculty and Parents to the ceremony. She then said that the 55 Fifth Grade Students was the largest promotional Class from the school. Ms. DeCongelio congratulated the Students for their achievements in school. Along with their work and dedication during their Fifth-Grade year. She then asked the Students to carry the lessons they learned at Steen as they move on to the next part of their Education.
Then the Student Speakers addressed the audience. They were Mr. Tobey Agapito, Ms. Jordin Koster, and Ms. Lisa Schwerin. They talked about their experience at Steen School. From their first days at the school making new friendships, learning new ideas, and watching each other grow-up. Plus remembering all activities, they shared during their Fifth-Grade year.
They thanked Principal DeCongelio along with the Teachers, and Staff at Steen School. They also thanked their Parents and Families for supporting them. And wished their classmates the best in the upcoming future.
Fifth Grade Teachers Ms. Pat Candelaria, Ms. Kelly Jones, and Ms. Maria Castillo stepped on stage, and asked a number of Students to come forward. Then groups of Students used the microphone to thank all the members of the Staff and Faculty for their work on keeping the building clean and safe, bringing them to the fieldtrips, making sure they received a healthy lunch, and helping them get a forgotten book, or instruments, that Parents needed to bring to the school. This was followed by the class singing ‘We Are the World” before receiving their Certificates of Promotion.
Finally, the time came to have the 2025 Fifth Grade Class of the Lillian M. Steen school receive their Certificates of Promotion from Principal DeCongelio. When the final certificate was presented, Students Ms. Alisha Ahemed, Ms. Juliette Morillo, and Mr. Alessandro Rodriguez Arcila gave the Parent Dedication while each Student was given a red rose to be presented to their Family. This was followed by a confetti shower passing over the Students before they started the recessional to begin the next phase of their Academic Careers.
