5-June-2025
On Wednesday-4-June, as part of the 2025 Bogota Week of the Arts the E. Roy Bixby School welcomed the dance troop Hip-Hop Fundamentals to the stage. They started their show displaying their skills to the delight of the Students. Then one of the dancers was asked what was one of his dreams. He answered that he wanted to grow-up to play Basketball. The other dancers did not believe he could do that. Soon it was explained, in a variety of different dances, what could help him reach his goal.
First was to be a good Student in school. They moved to other things that could be done to help him become a good player. One was to choose between a healthy sandwich for lunch, or just a snack. At this point, the Dancers asked for a number of Students to join them on stage to be part of a hip hop food challenge. The two groups were shown some dance moves to help their side. After the two groups performed, the rest of the Students voted that the healthy sandwich would be the best choice.
Next came, what kind of beverage could go with the sandwich. That could be a soda, or water. A new set of Students joined the dancers as the two types of liquids faced off. The water was the winner. The dance company told the Students of the healthy choices that they have made. But one more decision needed to be made. This was such an important choice that a number of Bixby Teachers join the next group of Students on stage. The option for this dance battle was what to do after school. Students could go outside and play with their friends or stay in their room to play video games. The Students in the audience agreed that playing outside as much as possible would help to have a healthy lifestyle.
After all the dance battles were completed, the dancers told of another healthy choice should be made. This was to always congratulate their opponent and to always show good sportsmanship.
