On Wednesday-18-June, the Bogota High School Class of 2025 held their Commencement Ceremony in Speary Gym. Principal Dr. Jeannie Paz welcomed the attendees to the 98th graduating class in the school's history with 88 Seniors.
The program started with Ms. Jhoana Morales giving the Flag Salute. Next was Ms. Jahernys Baquero leading the National Anthem. This was followed by Principal Paz message to the Students saying how she saw the classes unique individuality, showing their resilience and potential. She was followed by Superintendent of Bogota Schools Mr. Damian Kennedy. He congratulated the Students in saying that the 88 Seniors had 100 acceptances from Colleges, Universities and Technical Schools. With over 5.6 million dollars in Scholarships and awards. Superintendent Kennedy then recited a poem called “the Bottom Line” as a call to the Graduating Seniors that they can achieve anything they want with hard work, determination, and a strong belief in themselves.
The next speaker was the Salutatorian Ms. Emily Palagano. She started with remembering first entering Bixby School, starting with picture books, and moving to chapter books. Enjoying making friends, meeting the Teachers, attending events, and going on field trips.
When entering the High School there were even harder classes, but also more social event other experiences. She added that her classmates should remember the journey including the small parts. She then thanked her family and congratulated her Classmates. Ms. Palagano also snuck-in the customary comparison of how Bixby is better than Steen.
Next the Bogota Concert Band played “Brave Spirit” under the direction of Mr. David Abraham.
In the Valedictorian address Ms. Iris Sun talked about the Milestone for her Classmates and herself. This day is to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2025. Ms. Sun remembered of the need to improve on her classwork including learning English. She would than thank all the Families for lifting the spirits of the Students. She also spoke to other members of her family in their native tongue. Along with thanking the Faculty, Staff, Administrators, and others for being a part of their journey through Bogota High School. Ms. Sun then ended by defending the honour of Steen School.
This was followed by the Bogota High School Choir singing " Somewhere Only We Know" under the Direction of Mr. Michael Prachthauser.
Then all the Seniors of the Class of 2025 would be presented with their Diplomas.
Members of the Student Council, Ms. Samiya Fatima, Ms. Emily Palagano, Ms. Riley Bernstock, and Mr. Dean Sinisgalli led the Graduates in the Ephebic Oath. Then they announced their class gift to the school will be a bike rack to be installed at Fiegel Field in the new Bogota Sports Complex.
Ms. Isabella Guzman led the Graduates in singing of the Alma Mater. Then Class President Mr. Dean Sinisgalli led the Graduates in moving their tassels from the right to the left, as they counted down for the cap toss signaling, they have become the latest Alumni of the Bogota High School.
