On Sunday-24-August, a group of Parents distributed school supplies for the upcoming year. Ms. Luisa Reyes, Ms. Nelly Reyes, and Ms. Harolyn Bosch with guidance from Ms. Mary Wynman thought Students in Bogota could use help obtaining the needed supplies.
Bixby Teacher Ms. Diane Zayas Bazan contacted the group and coordinated what items each grade would need. They asked if any family in the Borough felt they had the need for supplies they should register with them.
This was open to support all grades from Pre-school to High School Seniors. Then Bogota Mayor Ms. Daniele Fede offered to provide the Bucs Gold bags so they could hold the supplies. Durning the registration process it was asked what items the families thought was important to the Students, based on the grade they will be in.
The distribution event was originally planned to be in the Senior Center. Because that room was scheduled to be repainted, with new carpeting being added it could not be used. Mayor Fede then arranged for the Council Chambers to be used.
On the day of the pick-up, bags were filled with supplies, and mark to show which grade the bags were for. They were place on the chairs in the chambers so each registered Student could easily take the proper bag. On tables in-front of the dais more supplies were available.
Supplies displayed ranged from soft tissues, pencils, crayons, pens, and composition books. Also available were spiral notebooks, binders, and note pads. With a number of different Arts and Crafts equipment available. Along with a collection of backpacks in a variety of sizes and colours.
Ms. Reyes specifically thanked Ms. Zayas Bazan for arranging to supply all of the backpacks. Along with everyone else who donated items and helped plan the event.
After the registered Students took their bags, the event was open to all other Students in Bogota.
