Freeze Frame Bogota

8-May-2019
On Monday-6-May the Bogota Public Library unveiled its Freeze Frame Bogota gallery show.  This is a project sponsored by the Library and the Bogota 125th Anniversary Committee. The purpose of this is to have current, and former, residents of Bogota share local history and thoughts about living in Bogota. The collection includes stories about growing up in the Borough. One is titled Bogota Love Story which shares a story about a couple meeting and stating a family in Bogota.  Another is a photo essay about  one house that was moved into in the early 1990’s. This includes original photos of the house when it was just finished being built.  Other items in the collection are older photos and a painting of one of the trees in Olsen Park during the Autumn season. One of the more interesting part of the collection is a Monopoly style game board based on Bogota as it was approaching its Centenary celebration. This has game spaces at was sponsored by local business some still in operation like Rainbow Cleaners and Tom’s Service Center. Other Companies that have left the Borough. A few of the former business' were Rose’s Corner Luncheonette,  and the Sun Bulletin Newspaper. The game was found in the Libraries archive with no further information or explanation with it. If anyone has more information about this game please contact the 125th Anniversary Committee at : bogotanj125@gmail.com
The collecting of these stories started  in February of this year with a number of submissions accepted. Then in April contributors met with Library Director Chelsea Coleman in order to edit and create presentation pieces for  this public display.
Freeze Frame Bogota will be  running at the Bogota Public Library until Friday-31-May. This is held in the reading room gallery on the first floor of the library.  There is also a display of Bogota through the decades  in the show cases in the Libraries foyer. Currently it focuses on the 1930’s & 1940’s and will change throughout the year. Both shows are opened during regular Library 's operating hours, They are free and are open to the public.
