On Tuesday-16-March the Ridgefield Park Lady Scarlets Volleyball team opened their 2021 season. This year they will still play in the America Division of the Big North Conference. They will be joined by Dwight -Morrow and still will have Cliffside Park, Ft. Lee, and Dumont in their division. Also this season the teams will not change sides after each set. For their home opener they welcomed the Lady Red Raiders from Cliffside Park.
Cliffside Park would serve first but the Lady Scarlet would win back the ball and score the first 5 points of this opening set. Cliffside Park would come back and tie the set at 6 then again at 8. They would then take their first lead of the match and build it to a double digit advantage. The Lady Red Raiders continue their serve run and move to within one point of a first set win. Ridgefield Park would stop the visitors from their target. Lady Scarlets took seven set points away from Cliffside Park and bring the score to 22-24. The Lady Red Raiders finally crossed the line and won the first set 25-22.
The second set again started with a few ties and lead changes. Cliffside Park trail by one, then score the next 12 points and have a 14-4 lead. This time Ridgefield Park responded with a ten point score run and held a 17-16 lead at one point. After two more ties the home would earn 7 of the next 10 points and tie the match at 1 set apiece by the score of 25-21
The final set had Cliffside Park jump out to a six point lead two different times. The margin would not grow larger and the Lady Scarlet slowly close the gap. Down by two point, Ridgefield Park then account for the last seven points of the set and win that by a score of 25-20 and the match 2-1. This makes Ridgefield Park's record 1-0.
The Lady Scarlet's were led by Alex Panoliano with 6 Kills. Jasmin Garcia recorded 18 Assists and 6 Aces.
Ridgefield Park is next scheduled to play on Thursday-18-March when they travel to Ft.Lee. This is scheduled start at 4:00p. The Junior Varsity game will follow at 5:30p. Only a limited number home team Parents are allowed to attend games in person.
